SAPC and California Institute for Behavioral Health Solutions (CIBHS) provide trainings related to finance, Key Performance Indicators, as well as general business development and operations for SAPC contracted SUD providers.

  • Capacity-Building and Incentives (CBI) Trainings
    Number of CE credits: None

    Description:
    The California Institute for Behavioral Health Solutions (CIBHS) will be providing several trainings in support of agencies who are participating in the Capacity-Building and Incentives (CBI) initiative.

    Audience:
    Executive leadership, mid-level management, clinical leaders, and quality improvement (QI) leaders.

Cultural Competency Training and Resources

  • Transgender, Gender Expansive, and Intersex (TGI) Cultural Competence in Behavioral Health Service Provision
    Number of CE credits: 2.5*
    * Los Angeles County Department of Public Health – Substance Abuse Prevention and Control Bureau is approved by the California Psychological Association (CPA), California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN), California Association for Alcohol/Drug Educators-Addiction Counselor Certification Board of California (CAADE’s/ACCBC), California SUD Counselor Certification (CADTP), California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals (CCAPP), and California Mental Health Service Authority (CalMHSA) to provide continuing education for psychologists, LMFTs, LPCCs, LCSWs, Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Licensed Vocational Nurses, Licensed Psychiatric Technicians, Substance Use Disorder Counselors, and Certified Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialists. Unless otherwise indicated, trainings are available free of cost to those who attend. Los Angeles County Department of Public Health – Substance Abuse Prevention and Control Bureau maintains responsibility for all training programs and content.
    Description:
    The TGI Cultural Competence in Behavioral Health Service Provision is developed and conducted by The TransLatin@Coalition Institute, a nationally recognized organization founded by and for Transgender, Gender Diverse, and Intersex (TGI) people that is dedicated to creating systemic change through education, advocacy, and community empowerment. California is home to nearly 100,000 transgender and gender-expansive people. California Senate Bill 923 presents SAPC treatment provider agency staff with the opportunity to focus on elevating the quality of substance use disorder service provision for its transgender, gender-expansive, and intersex (TGI) members.

    This training is designed to enhance the capabilities of SAPC provider agency staff in working and interacting with TGI individuals in a way that supports a sense of belonging and fulfills compliance with California Senate Bill 923.

  • CLAS ACT

    Description:
    The Cultural and Linguistically Appropriate Services - Access to Coaching and Training (CLAS ACT) project is intended to assist providers in improving current practices, policies and procedures to ensure that patients entering the SUD system have equitable access to the benefits of treatment, feel welcome and cared for regardless of language, race/ethnicity, gender identification, sexual preference, or abilities.

  • Embracing and Integrating Cultural Strengths and Differences in Substance Use Treatment Services

    Description:
    This virtual live training is to assist SAPC network providers with increasing their understanding of cultural humility and how to apply that knowledge in a substance use treatment setting. This training will define and explore cultural humility and its importance to Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment. Participants will be provided examples of at least two (2) SUD treatment approaches that are consistent with cultural humility. The training will then specify how to apply cultural humility in SUD treatment to assist participants in embracing patient’s cultural strengths and differences in their SUD recovery journey.

    Frequency: Quarterly (4 times a year)

  • Providing Culturally Responsive Care to the LGBT Population
    Number of CE credits: 3*
    * UCLA Integrated Substance Abuse Programs (ISAP) is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. UCLA ISAP is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. UCLA ISAP is also an approved provider of continuing education for RADTs I/II, CADCs-CASs, CADCs I/II, CADCs-CSs, and LAADCs (CCAPP), CATCs (ACCBC/CAADE), and CAODCs (CADTP). Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing. Partial credit will not be available for those participants who arrive late or leave early. UCLA ISAP maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
    Description:
    This training is intended for any provider in contact with LGBT individuals, including MH and SUD clinicians, HIV providers, State, Local and County governments employees, Primary care providers, Public health practitioners, Prevention specialists, Community based organizations, School teachers and counselors. The training includes an introduction to key terms and concepts (such as gender identity and sexual orientation), treatment considerations for clinical work, and addressing the specific needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals.

SAPC-UCLA Lecture Series

  • SAPC-UCLA Lecture Series Overview
    Description:
    SAPC and University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Integrated Substance Abuse Programs (ISAP) hold a lecture series three times per year on current and emergent topics of interest in the substance use disorder research and treatment. Leading researchers and treatment practitioners provide attendees with state-of-the-art, evidence-based information on substance abuse treatment and prevention. UCLA-ISAP and SAPC currently provides continuing education units for counselors, clinicians, nurses, and other professionals in the substance abuse field who attend the lecture as well as CMEs for medical professionals.
