Youth Suicide Deaths & Attempts
This dashboard provides data on suicide deaths and attempts among Los Angeles County youth ages 10-24 years. The data provided includes:
- An overview of the youth population
- Annual trends & demographics of youth who died by suicide
- Methods involved in youth suicide deaths
- Circumstances related to youth suicide deaths
- Weekly trends & demographics of youth who visited the emergency department after a suicide attempt
While we strive to be as inclusive as possible, due to data reporting guidelines, we are not able to report small numbers. This ensures we maintain the privacy of impacted individuals, but it means we do not include data for some racial/ethnic groups. This includes youth who identify as American Indian and Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander, Multiracial, or some other race, including those for whom race/ethnicity was not reported. Nor are we currently able to share any data on how suicide deaths and attempts impact sexual and gender expansive populations (e.g., LGBTQIA2S+ youth). Due to data collection and reporting practices, the data we provide here reports a youth's sex at birth (male or female) and not their current gender identity.
To access our reports with information on youth suicide deaths and attempts, please visit our main data and reports page.
Safe Data Usage Reminder
Before using any of the data provided on this dashboard, please assess your data report, presentation, talking points or any other way you're presenting the data through a safety lens.
The intention behind sharing this data is to spread awareness of the prevalence of this public health concern. To minimize potential harm or stigma when sharing the data, it is important to communicate information thoughtfully and intentionally to promote clarity, center the audience's well-being, and provide access to resources for support. The Introduction page within the dashboard includes specific safe messaging guidelines and a link to a video with more information.

Firearm Deaths & Injuries
This series of three dashboards provides data on Los Angeles County residents who were injured or killed by a firearm. Injuries are divided into those treated in hospitals (more severe injuries) and those treated and released from emergency departments (less severe injuries). People with firearm injuries that were not treated in hospitals or emergency departments are not included in these dashboards. Each dashboard provides trends for the past five years both for the overall county population and for the following categories:
- Gender (Male,Female)
- Age Group (0-24 years, 25-54 years, 55+ years)
- Race/Ethnicity (Black, Latino/Latinx, White)
- Injury Intent (For Deaths: Homicide, Suicide, or Other; for Hospitalizations & Emergency Department (ED) Visits: Assault or Other)
While we strive to be as inclusive as possible, due to data reporting guidelines, we are not able to report small numbers. This ensures we maintain the privacy of impacted individuals, but it means we do not include data for some racial and ethnic populations such as Asians, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders, and American Indians and Alaska Natives. Nor are we currently able to share any data on how firearm violence impacts gender minority populations (e.g., LGBTQ+ individuals). Our data tables currently only include information on males and females. In order to report consistent, reliable data by age group, we created three broad categories for reporting in these dashboards. Our OVP Data tables that are available on our main data and reports page have more detailed data available for some demographic groups. These tables can be accessed here.
