About Health Care Consumer Protection

The Health Care Consumer Protection Unit is housed in the Division of Medical and Dental Affairs in the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. The Unit is currently focused on addressing financial harms from health care, such as medical debt, which we estimate burdens 1 in 10 adults in LA County. We are using a prevention, population-based approach informed and implemented through a wide coalition of community organizations, legal aid groups, health plans, hospitals, physicians, and others.
