HAN
The Health Alert Network (HAN) is a web-based system available on a 24/7/365 basis
for distribution of health alerts and notifications with the objective of protecting
the health and safety of Los Angeles County residents. HAN is a key component of
preparedness for and response to significant public health incidents or potential
threats to the public’s health in Los Angeles County.
Alerts consist of information targeted health primarily to health care providers,
medical facilities, and key public health partners. Alerts and notifications are most
frequently distributed to key positions or identified roles at hospitals, clinics and
nursing facilities and schools.
Multiple individuals can be designated for these roles.
Examples of alerts include:
- Known or suspected disease outbreaks
- Occurrence of rare or unusual communicable disease
- Requests for heightened surveillance
- Disease identification, prevention, control, treatment and testing guidelines
- Natural disasters that may require a public health and/or emergency medical response
HAN participants will have the ability to receive alerts and notifications via e-mail, PDA, phone, SMS Text Message, fax and pager.
