About Animal Keepers
You are required to have a public health license under Los Angeles County Code Title 8 if:
- You have 5 or more horses, ponies, mules or donkeys
- You have 10 or more animals of the same or different classifications of horses, cow, sheep, goat or pig species
- You have 50 or more rabbits or hares
- You have 500 or more poultry or wild fowl
Apply for Permit/License
Exemption
You may be exempt from paying a license fee if:
- You own less than 10 horses, ponies, mules or donkeys
- You do not operate a boarding facility or receive income from the use of your animals
- You belong to a 4-H club, Future Farmers of America or a similar recognized group which is an organized program to encourage student participation in agricultural activities, and the animals are for that purpose
